Thursday, 09 May 2019 16:13

The Taabinga Rotary Club will be holding its 11th Bookarama Book Sale at the Kingaroy Town Hall on the second weekend in September.

During the year, we collect donations of books to use at the book sale.

Last year, the funds went to:

  • Kingaroy Hospital Auxiliary (towards the purchase of a second ultra sound machine)
  • Royal Flying Doctor Service. (This invaluable organisation continues to service the South Burnett)
  • Buy a Bale. (A plan to buy bales of hay for drought-stricken farmers)

The support that the club has had to the book sale over the last 10 years by the people of the South Burnett has been fantastic.

Climate change is the greatest environmental challenge facing our generation.

As part of World Environment Day (5 June), the Queensland State Government would like to support events in the regions.

Climate Week QLD 2019 will showcase how the State is transitioning to a low-carbon, clean growth future and building                                                                            a community of action to address climate change.  From 2–8 June 2019, community, business and political representatives                                                                 from across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region will meet to discuss and share ideas on how to address and adapt to climate change.

They are looking to support activities in the region (up to $500) that can be branded Climate Week and stimulate conversation and                                                action around climate change and the environment.  Ideas could include:

  • Sausage Sizzle and free tree stall
  • Public Discussions (speaker panel ) on environment
  • Climate picnic and plant a tree event
  • Art Exhibition

Community members are invited to participate in a week of arts, music and panel discussions, or organise their own event to raise                                             awareness about climate action.

Queensland’s future leaders, our school students, are also invited to look at innovative solutions to local climate change issues.                                                Submissions are due by 1.00pm on Friday 10 May 2019

Join in Climate Week QLD 2019 and be inspired on how you can play your part in climate change action.
