Up to $20K available for small businesses to employ for 'Back to Work'

This could provide up to $20,000 to employers (even for apprenticeships). There is a small amount of criteria and I would stress that this is an opportunity for businesses to seriously consider a new employee whether through apprenticeship or full-time/part-time work.

We hope that this helps encourage business operators to hire their apprentice/trainee at the completion of school.

There has been great success with this grant in all small business including farms/producers/factories and retail.



Direct Employer incentives:

  • $10,000 to businesses who took on an unemployed worker
  • $15,000 when they hired a long-term unemployed worker (out of work for 12 months or more).
  • $20,000 incentive for regional businesses who hire unemployed youths (15 – 24)

The Back to Work regional employment package includes:

  • $80 million for support payments for employers to take on regional jobseekers, including long-term unemployed. Read the factsheet on Employer Support Payments.
