SUMMARY:South Burnett Regional Council and the South Burnett Partnerships 4 Kids community forum.
DESCRIPTION:How children are faring in the South Burnett\nSouth Burnett Partnerships 4 Kids is a group of proactive community members focused on giving every\nchild a great start. Cr Danita Potter\, Jacqui Groskopf (South Burnett CTC) and Peta Clarkson (Goodstart\nEarly Learning Kingaroy) lead the group that has been meeting since 2017. \nThe group is guided by the Australian Early Development Census (AEDC)\, a national data collection that\ntakes place every 3 years\, with the next collection in 2024. The results help communities look at ways\nto support families in the early years\, as well as be responsive and inclusive of all children as they go\nthrough school. \nDuring a recent meeting\, the South Burnett Regional Council\, Queensland Health and the Department\nof Education looked at the most recent local AEDC results that showed an increase in vulnerability in\nchildren’s development prior to school. \nAlmost one in three children in the South Burnett start school developmentally vulnerable\, compared\nwith one in four children in Queensland. This is a statistic that the group is determined to change\nthrough the voice of local communities in how to support families. \nCr Jane Erkens said that she was saddened by the statistics and committed to supporting community\naction along with her fellow councillors. \nKingaroy Town Hall\, 20 April 2023: Register here\nFor more information\, contact Cr Danita Potter on 0409 490 175 or div3@sbrc.qld.gov.au

SUMMARY:EOI – Suicide Prevention Capacity Building Program
DESCRIPTION:Black Dog Institute is delivering a Suicide Prevention Capacity Building Program in the Kingaroy region between February and May 2023. \nFunded by the Department of Health\, the program consists of 6 evidence-based workshops\, which will be guided by the area’s needs and current approaches to suicide prevention. \nThe intent of this program is to strengthen collaboration\, co-ordination\, and visibility of these activities. From this\, we aim to support the establishment of a community collaborative to implement local suicide prevention activities. \nWe understand there is a suicide prevention network in the region currently and we encouraged people part of this group to apply. Additionally\, we know there are many people who are working hard to reduce the rates of suicide and we are wanting to engage representatives from across the region including the Local Health Network\, service providers\, health professionals\, school counsellors\, clinicians\, local businesses\, volunteer action groups\, first nations people\, first responders\, community members and welcome individuals with a lived experience. \nParticipation in the program is free\, and we ask that you commit to attending all 4 of the 2–3-hour workshops. Workshop dates: 16/2\, 16/3\, 20/4\, 18/5. If you are unavailable at these times\, don’t worry as this does not preclude you from joining the broader collaborative once the program is completed. \nSpaces are limited so please email your expression of interest to kirsten@sbctc.com.au by close of business 13/1/2023. \nDownload flyer.

SUMMARY:Cyber Safety Info Session
DESCRIPTION:CTC is hosting an evening ThinkUKnow Cyber Safety Session for Parents and Teenagers 14 and over on Wednesday\, November 23 from 5.30-7 pm at CTC Youth and Family Services in Kingaroy (besides the skate park) on Somerset Street. \nWe’d love to see plenty of parents with their teens attend\, as well as parents of younger children\, youth and family workers\, and any other support and case workers who would like to brush up on their knowledge. \nWe will have Sergeant Rene Bond from the PCYC presenting the parenting component of the nationally recognised ThinkUKnow program as well as Andrew Overton from CTC presenting a practical information session to demonstrate some of the programs and products parents can implement to limit and monitor internet use as well as limit the chances of predators making contact with their children. \nThe info session will be followed by a delicious Domino’s pizza feast and we will also have some little info packs/goodie bags for all participants to take home with them. \nTo fellow support workers: please help spread the word about the info session by handing out flyers and posters to clients. I’ve attached both PDF and PNG files above with the event poster. \nTo all the schools: If we could please advertise this event in the school newsletters that would be wonderful. Please let me know if there are any costs involved\, I’m happy to arrange payments. \nIf these evening information sessions are successful\, we’d also like to plan some additional workshops in other townships such as Murgon\, Nanango\, and Yarraman\, etc. \nCyber Safety and the danger of the internet is something we need to address as a community. \nTo register call 4162 7788 or email courtneyl@sbctc.com.au
