Influenza Vaccination requirements – Aged Care

By April 15, 2021No Comments2 min read

We are writing to alert you to a new requirement for entry to aged care services in Queensland.

The Queensland Chief Health Officer has mandated that after 3 May 2021, anyone entering an aged care service must have an up-to-date influenza vaccination.

You and your team will need to get the latest flu vaccination prior to entry to Lutheran Services aged care facilities for any reason after 3 May. The vaccination can be accessed via a GP or pharmacy.

Once vaccinated, you and your team will be required to bring along proof of vaccination at each visit. This will either be a receipt from a GP or pharmacist, or a record from the Australian Immunisation Register, which can be accessed on the Medicare App on your phone.

There are only two exemptions to this Queensland Government mandate:

1. You have a medical reason for not being able tolerate the flu vaccine, or

2. You are observing the recommended waiting period between receiving the COVID-19 vaccine and the influenza vaccine.

It is a requirement that evidence of these exemptions is provided to our aged care services to be eligible for enter without a flu vaccination post 3 May 2021.

This mandated requirement was released on Thursday 8 April. We recognise this is a short time frame to arrange vaccinations. However, this a mandatory requirement and we are unable to be flexible on this.

We thank you for your understanding and patience.
