The Queensland Government are rolling out the Building Regulation Renovation (Building Reg Reno) which will implement regulation reforms to make it easier to build in Queensland. The changes will be introduced through a series of tranches, focusing on cutting red tape, reducing unnecessary costs and ensuring the smoother operation of the industry.
Notable changes
- Administration of trust accounts to private projects under $10 million paused to allow small builders to dedicate to construction.
- Cutting paperwork by 97% for sole traders and small builders by cancelling MFR financial reporting for lower categories of individual licensees (SC1 and SC2).
- Extending timeframes by up to 5 years for small builders to meet occupational licensing requirements for passive fire protection work as well as upskilling requirements for additional existing licenses.
- Free occupational licenses for plumbers who pay for a QBCC Contractor license to carry out particular fire protection work.
